Selection criteria for a brass DIN 985 nut

Material and connection requirements

Brass is a different material from zinc-plated steel or stainless steel A2 or A4. Do not assign steel nut classes and loads to a brass design. The required alloy, mechanical properties, operating environment and compatibility with other components should follow from the project and product documentation.

Do not assume special properties of the complete nut, such as chemical resistance or suitability for a particular installation, solely from the material name. The non-metallic insert has its own temperature and substance-contact requirements.

Thread, dimensions and installation

Selection requires nominal thread diameter and pitch, nut height, spanner size and screw length. The insert increases rotational resistance but does not replace correct connection clamping. Establish the tightening procedure and reuse criteria from the documentation of the selected design.
