A2 stainless steel

Self-locking nuts DIN 985 A2 stainless steel

A2 stainless steel nuts DIN 985 have a hexagonal body and a non-metallic insert that increases rotational resistance on the screw thread. When selecting for machine parts, equipment and technical installation, both body material and insert operating conditions must be considered.

This NERON group contains sizes M3, M4, M5, M6, M8, M10, M14 and M16, offered in different packs. Compare thread, dimensions, quantity and operating environment requirements before choosing a design.

Selecting stainless steel nuts DIN 985 A2

Body material and insert

A2 specifies a stainless steel group. It does not automatically mean a particular mechanical property class for the complete nut. Do not assign class A2-70 or another class unless confirmed by the product documentation. The non-metallic insert requires separate checks of permitted temperature and contact with substances.

When selecting for the environment, consider moisture, salts, cleaning agents and operating conditions. The name “stainless” alone does not confirm resistance to every environment. Material requirements for the complete connection should also include the screw and joined components.

Packs found in the range

M3, M4 and M5 — in 25 or 1000 pieces.
M6 — in 25 or 500 pieces, M8 — in 25 or 250 pieces.
M10 — in 10 or 150 pieces.
M14 and M16 — in 10 or 50 pieces.

Check the number of pieces per sales unit. Match packaging to the number of connections and servicing needs. Establish availability on the specific product page.

Thread and installation procedure

Diameter and pitch must match the screw. Check nut height, width across flats, bearing surface and the screw length needed for insert engagement. Determine tightening torque and any lubrication from the documentation, and do not equate insert resistance with achieving the required clamping force.

Questions about DIN 985 A2

Does a stainless steel body mean the insert withstands high temperatures?

No. Body material and insert have separate requirements. The manufacturer of the specific design confirms the permitted temperature of the complete product.

Can A2 be replaced with A4 without checking the other data?

A material change does not confirm matching dimensions, class or insert parameters. Compare DIN 985 A4 nuts with the project requirements.

Is the nut suitable for reinstallation?

Reuse requires permission and fulfilment of manufacturer criteria. Replace the component if required by servicing documentation or the condition of the thread and insert.
