A clip nut is fitted to the intended material edge to allow a mating part to be screwed on. These solutions are used in housing, guard and panel connections where the design permits. Edge access and alignment of the fastening axis with the hole are important selection factors.

Dimensions needed for selection

• Panel thickness — compare with the product installation range, allowing for surface condition at the insertion point.
• Hole distance from the edge — check that the screw axis aligns with the fastening point after fitting.
• Overall dimensions — allow for width, length and space occupied on both sides of the material.
• Mating screw — select type, size and length according to the specific product data sheet.
• Material and coating — compare with environmental and substrate requirements.

Preparation and installation

Check the panel edge, hole and insertion path. The component should be fitted according to instructions without forcing a fit by permanent bending. A variant intended for another thickness may fail to hold its position correctly.

Before tightening, position the attached part and check axis alignment. Do not use the screw to pull the fastening into a position not allowed by its geometry. Determine permitted torque and connection load from the specific product data and panel construction.

Clip nuts and other thin-material fasteners

Technology choice depends on the available edge, hole and installation process. Cage nuts AN87 and press-in nuts require separate checks of geometry and fitting method. Similar screw size does not confirm interchangeability.
