Special-shape nuts

Special-shaped nuts — selection by function

The category name indicates a special component design but does not itself define dimensions or installation method. The current catalogue structure includes the shear nuts group. Start there if the design requires this fastening type.

How does a shear nut work?

In a typical security nut, the driving section breaks off when the specified torque is reached. The remaining section has a shape that makes removal with a standard tool difficult. Design details and break-off torque must be confirmed in the specific product documentation; they do not follow from thread diameter alone.

What should you check before use?

• Servicing needs: establish whether the connection must be regularly dismantled.
• Thread: compare diameter, pitch and direction with the mating bolt.
• Dimensions: check the bearing surface, height and space for the installation tool.
• Material and coating: select for the loads and operating environment.
• Installation parameters: confirm the manufacturer’s requirements for tightening and breaking off the driving section.

Selecting a connection designed to resist removal

The use of a shear nut should be considered at the design stage, accounting for subsequent repair or replacement of attached parts. Difficult removal does not mean complete tamper resistance. Suitability assessment should cover the entire fastening assembly.

Questions about special-shaped nuts

Is a shear nut a rivet nut?

These names must not be confused. A rivet nut is set by deformation in a prepared hole, while the shear nuts described here are tightened onto a mating thread.

Can the nut later be unscrewed normally?

Difficult removal is a feature of this solution. The servicing method must be established before installation.

What should an enquiry to NERON in Piła include?

Provide the nut type, thread, dimensions, material, operating conditions and quantity. Include a drawing or installation requirements. Other groups can be found in the nuts category.
