Fasteners for machines, structures and assembly work

Fasteners are used to join, locate and secure components. Selection starts with the function of the joint: a bolted enclosure, a fixing to a profile and mating machine components each have different requirements. Bolts, nuts, washers and threaded rods

For threaded joints, check bolts, nuts, washers and threaded rods. Thread diameter and pitch, length, head shape, material and strength class are important. The bolt and nut must form a set that meets the requirements of the joint. For screws also consider the substrate type and tip geometry. Metric and imperial products require their designations to be checked separately.

Pins, clevis pins, split pins and keys

Pins, ISO 2341 clevis pins, split pins and keys perform different functions in mechanical assemblies. When replacing a component, compare its type, diameter, length and mating surfaces with the machine documentation. Similar appearance alone does not confirm interchangeability. For pins, check whether the designation refers to a spring pin, cylindrical pin or another variant.

Rivets, rivet nuts and fixings for sheet metal and profiles

For joints in thin materials, browse rivets, rivet nuts and fasteners for thin materials. Selection requires checking the thickness of the parts being joined, the hole diameter, the fastener material and the installation method specified for the product. For profile structures, check fasteners for profiles and their compatibility with the specific system.

DIN, ISO and EN standards and fastener material

The standard designation helps identify the product type and its requirements. Where a product page lists DIN and ISO designations, compare the drawing and parameters of the required variant; do not automatically assume full interchangeability across all dimensions and designs. Material, strength class and surface coating are separate characteristics. A stainless steel item is not a universal replacement for a steel bolt of a specified class, and corrosion resistance must be selected according to the operating environment. Requirements for HV EN 14399 preloaded joints must be considered in relation to the complete assembly and the structural documentation.

How to prepare a fastener enquiry?

• Provide the component name, standard designation or manufacturer's code.
• Specify the diameter, length and other relevant dimensions; for a threaded joint, also specify the thread type and pitch.
• State the required material, strength class and coating if specified in the documentation.
• State the number of pieces and check how many pieces are included in the sales unit.
• For an unusual component, prepare a drawing, a photo of the marking or the dimensions of a sample.

Questions about selecting and ordering fasteners

Is the thread diameter alone enough to select a bolt?

No. You must also consider the thread pitch and type, length, head design, material and the strength requirements of the joint. Compare the full set of parameters listed on the product page.

How is bolt length measured?

For most headed bolts, length is measured from the surface beneath the head to the end. For a countersunk head, the length usually includes the head. The dimensional drawing for the specific type is decisive.

Is a stainless steel item always suitable for outdoor use?

Selection depends on the material grade and operating conditions, including exposure to moisture and corrosive substances. Check the product specification and application requirements; the term ‘stainless’ alone is not enough.

Is the price for one piece?

Check the product name and sales unit. The same type and size may come in packs containing different numbers of pieces. Compare the pack quantity before deciding how many sales units to order.
