Profile nuts — where to start?

Go to the profile nuts group and compare the parameters with the drawing of the profile you use. The profile’s outside dimensions do not fully describe its slot. Even similar designs may require different accessories.

• Profile system and series — establish the manufacturer’s designation or compare the cross-section with the documentation.
• Slot geometry — check the opening width, internal dimensions and the nut’s bearing surfaces.
• Nut thread — match the diameter and pitch to the screw and connection requirements.
• Nut dimensions — consider width, length and height so that the part seats correctly in the slot.
• Installation method — check whether the version slides in from the profile end or can be inserted elsewhere along the slot.

Assembling a profile connection

Select the screw length according to the thickness of the attached part, the washers used and the required thread engagement length. The screw must not bottom out in the slot before the connection is properly clamped. Check the required tightening torque and loads in the documentation for the specific assembly.

When extending an existing frame, consider access to the profile ends and the assembly sequence. A version that slides in from the end may require a different assembly order from one inserted through the slot opening. Does an M6 nut fit every profile?

No. M6 specifies the thread, not the nut’s external shape or compatible slot. Both parts of the connection must be compatible.

Is an identical slot opening width sufficient?

Not always. Also check the internal slot geometry, nut height, bearing surfaces and system compatibility.

How do I select a nut for an already assembled structure?

Establish access to the profile end and the permitted insertion method for the specific nut. Include the profile designation or a cross-section drawing in your enquiry.
