Benefits of using aluminium tubes

Manufacturing components and structural elements from aluminium tubes is economically justified for several reasons. The first is their versatile application resulting from easy working. Aluminium tubes can be cut to length, formed and welded without difficulty. This makes it easy to create load-bearing and support structures, as well as decorative, ventilation and heating components. A single aluminium tube can serve as the basis for a wide variety of projects.

The second advantage with an economic benefit is long service life and low maintenance costs. Aluminium has a “natural” ability to passivate. This process involves reacting with oxygen to form a thin neutral layer that prevents corrosion. Aluminium tubes generally do not require additional protection, although electroplating is used for certain applications to improve protection.

The third economic argument is seen in production savings. Aluminium tubes can be made from recycled material, and processing them does not consume as much energy as other metals. Aluminium retains its properties after recycling, so it can be used for any application regardless of its origin.

Selecting aluminium tubes and alloy type

Depending on the operating environment, mechanical loads and specific technical requirements, different aluminium tube parameters are decisive. One of these is the alloy used for the aluminium — 6061 and 6063. Alloy 6061 offers higher strength, making it ideal for structural applications such as load-bearing structures and frames. Alloy 6063, on the other hand, has better workability but somewhat lower strength. It is therefore commonly used to manufacture components less subject to loads and decorative components.
